CELEBRATING SUCCESS

Monday evening, March 1, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., the Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities will have its annual “Celebrating Success.” We will honor individuals with developmental disabilities who have made progress and achieved goals since March 2009. We will meet at Queens Center for Progress, 81-15 164th Street, Jamaica, New York.  A light meal of sandwiches and cookies will be served.

We want to have broad participation in this event, meaning that we want to celebrate individuals from many schools and agencies.  We ask that you nominate no more than four individuals per agency or school that have achieved success during the past year.  We will honor the individual with an award that he/she will receive that night.

Please nominate people who have achieved in the following categories:

§         School Age Success (e.g. transition to inclusion program, travel training, from ABA, etc.)

§         Day Time Success (e.g. success in supported work, day program, etc.)

§         Residence Success (e.g. transition from home to residential setting, to own or supported apartment, etc.)

§         Other (what haven’t we thought of?)

Please complete the Celebrating Success Application Form and return it by February 12th to

2010 LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST

On behalf of the Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities (QCDD), we respectfully ask that you join us at our 2010 Legislative Breakfast to be held on Friday, March 12th at York College, 96-43 Springfield Blvd., in Queens Village, New York.  Continental Breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m.  Come share your thoughts and concerns for individuals with disabilities with the Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities, NYS Legislators, state officials and the families of Queens.

The QCDD is an organization made up of over 70 provider agencies representing over 30,000 people with developmental disabilities and their families living in Queens.

This event is part of our council’s year-round activities to bring together our government representatives and those within the community of the disabled.  The primary focus is to analyze the Status Budget and advocate for services that have not been supported or need additional resources.  This legislative breakfast is likely to draw over 450 people comprised of state and local legislators, provider organizations, persons with disabilities and their families.  The State of New York is about to be led by a new governor and his administration.    It is most critical for people with disabilities that our representatives hear and understand their needs.

Please join us in meeting with the Legislators and State Agency Representatives of Queens, New York City and New York State to discuss the reforms that affect this group of New Yorkers with special needs.  Over 15 of your representatives attended last year!  Consumers and parents may attend for Free and should contact the agency they are affiliated with to register.

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE, FOR YOUR VOICE TO BE HEARD!!

Please contact the agency or school you are affiliated with (Principal, Parent Coordinator, Transition Coordinator, Teacher or Counselor).   Please join us!  RSVP by February 5th, 2009.

Providers please request registration form to be e-mailed or faxed to you.

For additional information, please contact Naleesha Rampersaud at Independence Residences, 718-805-6796 ext.123
